Sandy Barth grew up in the Midwest with a deep love for horses and art. Her school papers were often illustrated with horse drawings in the margins and her fondest memories were visits to her grandparent’s home—close to pastures of small urban farms. Sandy earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from The Center for Creative Studies in Detroit and has also studied sculpture, drawing and painting at Birmingham Bloomfield Art Association, The Studio at Long Grove, Spruill Art Center and others. Ms. Barth has exhibited at Art on the Green (Franklin, MI), The Scarab Club in (Detroit) and at Gallery V (Roswell, GA).

Now a resident of Atlanta, Sandy often visits horse shows, breeding farms and race tracks (a favorite being Keeneland in Lexington, KY) for inspiration. In addition to equine art, Ms. Barth is interested in expressions of the human figure—typically on a romantic or nostalgic level. And since she grew up around a family of photographers, Sandy also enjoys shooting people and nature with her Nikon. Her primary mediums are pastel, oil and acrylic. A number of Sandy’s works are now in private collections.

“Through oils and pastels, my paintings explore the intrinsically romantic nature of equine and figurative themes. By embracing a definite linear approach through materials and stroke, each piece records an emotional dialog with its subject matter. Technique functions as a metaphor for the passion, movement and excitement of its subjects. Line and color are used to explore fleeting moments in time. Whether it’s a groom adjusting harness between “classes” or an intimate depiction of a couple slow dancing, my paintings grow out of a deep connection to the freedom and mysterious beauty inherent in each subject.”
